Hamdy Radwan I am glad to see the changes in Egypt are coming close to my great Faculty of Physical Therapy. The proposed changes of the deanship and the proposed names to lead the Faculty in the near future are good changes to see.
I'd like to share my experience as I've participated in hiring of deans and chairpersons for physical therapy programs across the US.
The first and foremost is to set criteria of the Dean we like to see leading this great institution. Previously the only criteria is to be a professor who is a member of the Hizb Watanni and cleared by security apparatus of a sick regime. Now we are free Al-Hamdullelah and we must demand the highest level for our profession from the dean.
The dean job is not only graduating professionals who are trained and highly skilled in providing PT to their clients, but also in paving the road for them to practice in an environment that enable them to excel and advance in their careers.
The qualified candidate for the dean position of the college beside he/she must be of course a physical therapist with an earned PhD or EdD degree in a related field and has an active license to practice in the country. He/she must be Experienced in accreditation, administration, leadership, curriculum development, education of physical therapists, research, and understanding of evidence based practice/problem-based learning.
So if we are going with election of the deans, candidates must present a plan of action on how to move the profession forward and that must include the application of the entry level degree of DPT.
Let us refrain from choosing a person according to a popularity but rather according to qualifications.
