How do you take care of my incisions?
Your incision is closed with staples or stitches and covered with a small sterile bandage. Remove the bandage 3 days after your surgery.
After 3 days, the incision does not need to be covered. You will see your family doctor or a nurse in the Neurosciences Clinic 5 to 10 days after your surgery. Your staples or stitches will be removed and your incision will be checked. It is important to have your incision checked within 5 to 10 days of your surgery, even when you have dissolving stitches.
Tips:
• Do not shower or use shampoo until after the staples or stitches are removed unless your surgeon tells you differently. Gently wash using a fragrance-free shampoo, such as baby shampoo.
• Hair care products such as hair spray and gels can be used after one month as long as your incision is well healed.
• Do not use any lotions or creams on the incision unless prescribed by your surgeon.
