Side Effects of Brain Surgery

Post by roshaan on Thu Oct 15, 2009 2:57 pm

Doctors use brain surgery to treat different conditions affecting the brain and brain structures by opening the skull. Brain surgery treats hemorrhages caused by head injuries, tissue damage, skull fractures, blood vessel damage, seizures and other neurological brain diseases. Doctors use this procedure to remove brain tumors as well. This highly invasive medical procedure results in increased risk of multiple side effects, most of which disappear after therapy.

After a major operation (especially brain surgery), the elderly
generation runs a 20% risk of getting pneumonia. This is because brain
surgery weaknes the gag and coughing reflexes, thus making it easier
for patients to breath in bacteria from their mouth and nose.
A research study done among 23 people has found that proper oral
hygiene before a surgery makes a difference. There were five people
who developed pneumonia within 48 hours of their operation, and each of
them had poor oral health, like gingivitis, prior to
the surgery. It is estimated that the risk of infection after surgery
in those with poor oral health is increased by at least threefold.

How to Prepare for Brain Surgery Side Effects?

Post by harshan on Fri Nov 13, 2009 10:31 am

How to Prepare for Brain Surgery Side Effects?
It is never too soon to prepare for the possible side effects of brain
surgery. There are risks for any surgery, and brain surgery is
certainly no exception. In fact, the possibility for serious side
effects is present simply because the brain is the nerve center of the
body. Damage to any part of the brain can have life-changing
consequences.
Pls advise.
